Terry Carter is a Los Angeles based guitarist, songwriter, and the creator of Rock Like The Pros. Terry was first inspired to write the first Rock Like The Pros curriculum when he began teaching guitar classes and was not being able to find a well rounded curriculum that addressed the key components of guitar playing: Chords, Strumming Songs, Music Reading, Blues, Soloing, Finger Style, Technique, and learning a variety of different styles. Through a lot of research and in-class testing of material, the Rock Like The Pros Beginning Guitar Method book was created. Terry believed students would learn more effectively if there were instructional videos that accompanied the notation/tab. The book and videos became a big success and was adopted as the textbook used by many instructors at various schools including: Santa Monica College, University of Southern California, Cypress College, Chaffey College, Crossroads School, Los Angeles Trade Tech College, and Los Angeles City College
Terry was then asked to teach the Intermediate Guitar Class at the local college and thus the Rock Like The Pros Intermediate Guitar Method was created. The same process happened which help lead to the creation of the Rock Like The Pros Advanced Class Guitar Method, Rock Like The Pros Expert Class Guitar Method, and Rock Like The Pros Classical Guitar Method. Using the same philosophy as the beginning book, Terry combined a diverse curriculum and well-written lessons accompanied by high quality instructional videos and backing tracks
As technology advanced and apps began to take over smart phones and tablets, Terry decided to make a mobile app version of Rock Like The Pros. The app version allows users to access the lessons anywhere, anytime. In the app the user can not only see the videos, but also listen to and play along with the backing tracks and see the notation/TAB on the screen
Some other features in the app include a “Styles,” “Theory,” and “Master Class” section. The “Styles” section allows the user to access the material they are most interested in whether that is Strumming Songs, Blues Rhythm, Blues Lead, Rock, Jazz, Country, Bossa Nova, Funk, Finger Style, Classical Favorites, Technique Builders, Reggae, and many more
The “Theory” section shows users the secrets to Fretboard Harmony and Music Theory to give them a better understanding of how music and the guitar relate. In the “Master Class” section, guest guitar masters will stop by and show you some guitar tricks and tips that will take your playing to the next level
The Rock Like The Pros team is also working hard on getting a tuner installed in the app as well as getting all the chord diagrams, notation and TAB embedded in the videos so users can keep their eyes focused on the video which allows greater concentration on the videos
